Somewhere Over the Rainbow Carnival 2021 @ Boatslip, Queen Vic, Prince Albert, Cafe Heaven & Grab’n’Go

After taking a year off from creating new content for Carnival, we all felt the call to go big for this Carnival. What is undoubtedly my largest undertaking yet, we made quite the impact this year on Commercial St. The Ruby Slippers jutting 24’ out from the Boatslip was an actual showstopper, became an anchoring image of the entire town and even got some national news coverage.

It was perfect to dress up Cafe Heaven with a bunch of adorable Cherubs playing with rainbows!

Aiming to reclaim the queerness of the Wizard of Oz, quite the narrative was establish at the Queen Vic and the Prince Albert. With a furry legged pin-up Dorothy, Toto in a pup mask, a sissy femmy lion, Tinman of Finland, and of course Scarecrow on the St. Andrews cross, it definitely made a splash!

Gods&Goddesses Carnival 2017 @ the Boatslip Resort

My first summer in Provincetown, I collaborated with DJ MaryAlice at the Boatslip Resort to create a monumental God of the Sea with his two majestic seahorses. Painted and cut out of wood sheets, these figures were mounted right on the building at the end of the parade route.

These paintings are actually still up years later- check them out on your way to teadance!

MASKS!

I doubled my Carnival work this year with the incomparable Queen Vic Guesthouse with 8’ masks and starfish, and festive accouterments of course! I also painted and sold a bunch of masks for people to wear during the parade.

Nothing more MardiGras than a marching band! These festive fishy musicians brought the jazz to the streets at the Boatslip Resort.

Enchanted Forest Carnival 2019 @ the Boatslip Resort, the Queen Vic Guesthouse & Cafe Heaven Restaurant

One of the most ambitious installations I’ve tackled to date, I aimed to pay homage to the original Enchanted Forest- the Garden of Eden. A two story serpent, painted to appear made out of florals itself, snaked up and around the building, while the other seemed to swim in and out of the bushes right on the sidewalk. The Boys at the Queen Vic installed a smoke machine at their entryway that enforced the ominous nature of the bitten apple.
