Joshua Wilmoth (1986, USA) currently lives and creates in Provincetown, MA. He is classically-trained, with degrees from Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts as well as a graduate of the Alexander W. Dreyfoos High School of the Arts.

Through a diversity of media, his work is an exploration of the spaces between motion and stillness, often with a deeply sensual and emotional impact.  With vibrant layering of color, he aims to create bold, whimsical narratives of the world around us, releasing us from the confines of the mundane. His work tends to gravitate towards the figurative, with common themes of fluidity, identity, and sexuality running throughout. Joshua’s work layers the visible surface with the undercurrent of constant and dynamic change, showcasing that there is always something new to see in the everyday world around us.

Location Art & Murals

Leaning towards larger scale work, it’s been a natural progression for him to cut out the canvas and paint right on the walls. Mural work has been a liberating development in his artistic pursuits, allowing Joshua to extend beyond the constraints of rectangles and frames, creating a way to experience artwork that is borderline impossible to ignore. Each individual project has its own set of nooks and crannies to exploit, extenuate and celebrate, allowing for creative problem solving and exciting unforeseen moments of thoughtfulness and transformation.

Especially in today’s climate of mass production for art and fashion, there is something so dynamic about creating something that is only meant to exist in one place and time. The veiled permanence and acknowledged lifespan of location artwork has yielded some incredible moments that has transformed public, residential and commercial spaces all over New England.
